I too like double lip seals and use then whenever available. Not only do they keep grease/oil in, but they do a better job of keeping contaminants out. Inner hub seals are a potential problem area for water entering the wheel bearings.
On a related note, if you read your old Power-Wagon owner's manual, it suggest repacking the wheel bearings after hard driving rains. Fording streams and deep mud or snow four-wheeling is kind of a no brainer.
