The unfortunate contradiction in this is simple....more people today have entered the throw-away product mentality. When looking at price difference between $40 for imported or $400 for domestic, most people will choose the $40 item. Maybe it's because there are so many things out there that we think we need...cars, tvs, phones, bikes, tools, barbecues, whatever. Mass production in countries where labor is dirt cheap is pretty hard to compete with, so domestic products either go away or go way up in price.
