The gearshift lever should be in the neutral position. If you slant the housing down to the passenger side and up towards the driver side, you'll be able to see where the gears need to be for the forks to go in the gear slots. Once you have the forks in, you can lay the housing down and move the housing around to get the reverse gear fork in it's slot. After you get everything in place, install a couple bolts and check the shifting to ensure all the gears engage properly.
