That is the way I do it. If I can not locate an anchor far enough up hill from the truck (250 feet of 7/16 cable) I use a snatchblock at the anchor and bring the cable back to one of the tow hooks on the front bumper. In even more cramped surroundings, I hook a second snatchblock on the bumper tow hook and run the cable back again to the anchor.

Nice thing about this method is that you can "steer" the truck sligtly to keep the cable wraps where you want them. With a little practice you will get the hang of it and be able to feel (and somewhat see, through the windshield) how the cable is laying - especially at the critical sides of the drum when it may want to skip back to the center upon starting another layer of wrap.
