One of the guys on the forum let his truck sat for about six months and couldn't get it started after pouring gas down the carb. - would start but not run. We stepped through the trouble shooting to find that the float needle in the carb. was stuck not allowing gas in, once cleaned, it ran fine.
- If you pour some gas down the carb. and it runs but doesn't continue, you'll need to see if gas is reaching various points, pump, carb., bowl, etc.
- Even though a truck sets for a couple years there is enough oil between parts to prevent damage, just watch the oil pressure gauge, it should show some pressure as the engine cranks. The key is to start the engine as quickly as possible to get the oil pressure up and hold it at a fast idle for 5 minutes to oil everything up.
- You could remove the plugs pour oil into the cylinders, but you run the risk of causing the rings to stick to the piston as the oil burns away eliminating their effectiveness. The only ring that should be oiled in a rebuild is the oil ring - NO OIL ON THE COMPRESSION RINGS FOR THAT REASON.
I've started trucks that have sat for 15+ years and with just pouring gas down the carb. and never had any problems result from it. Again, the key is to get the engine started quickly.
