If you decide to take the head off, you should measure the stroke. It might be your (or someone else's) lucky day by finding that it's actually a 230. The internals of the 218 and 230 are interchangeable and it's possible someone turned it into a 230, even if the stamp on the side of the block still decodes to being a 218.
