Recent history. I have a battery tender on the 6 Volt battery. I went out to start it several weeks ago and it barely cranked. Put a regular battery charger on it set to 6V. Let it go for several days the I thought I shut off the power to the charger. I reconnected the tender and left it alone. Today I removed charger clips unplugged the tender and removed the hot battery cable, negative side. After changing the windshield crank, I reconnected the negative battery cable and turned on the ignition. As soon as I depesed the foot starter, the top of the battery blew off with a loud POP. Turned off the key and disconnected the battery. dumped water over the fender, generator, and starter and general engine area. Pulled out the case of the battery and put it outside in a plastic bucket. I am lucky i was in the cab and no one was in the garage. Could have been more devastating. 1st, wehat the hell happened and why. 2nd any ideas on neutralizing the remaining battery acid Incidentally, it doesn't look like too much acid actually spewed out. Let my mistake be a warning to others.
