Check your timing Chain for slop. Easy to do if you pull the plug and grab the Fan Blade to turn the engine over till you see the rotor move. The watch closely and turn the fan blade the other way if you move the fan blade over 1/2" before the rotor moves the other way you have slop. Popping thru the Carb is because the intake valve was open when the point fired off the plug. Timing is very important. If you jumped your chain or stretched it enough the timing will fluctuate. Small Block Chevy Engines were good for this. This is how I used to check them. Some times the chain can get so loose it will jump and if you set the timing by static it will change on you.
