John, I've used DOT
5 several times & noticed the same thing. Seems its thinner viscosity or something. None of your cylinders should be wheeping, only the flared fittings right?
Take the time & tighten the system. DOT 5 is the way to go for what we do with these trucks. The local brake expert here says DOT 3 has a swelling agent in it that Silicone doesn't have, but how that affects steel connections???
Go with the Silicone, It's worth the trouble. Some will tell you your brakes will be spongy with Silicone....likely brake repair facilities trying to excuse they're poor work, cause mine work perfectly. I installed Silicone in a W300 18 years ago & the brakes are still perfect although the truck is rarely driven.
