You will need to change out all of the light bulbs (don't forget the dashbulbs), the heater fan motor, the wiper motor (if electric), the starter (optional), the horn, the voltage regulator, and then look in Hemmings Motor for a converter (6 to 12) for each of the guages that are 6 volt guages such as the fuel guage. The Ampmeter will need to be changed because the range of the guage on to low (30 amps??? the alternator puts out 60 amps). You may have a positive ground system. The 12 volt system will require you to change to a negative ground system.
If you are going to change over to 12 volt it would be a good time to simply rebuild the entire electrical system - Rewire and replace everything. It is not really hard but it does require you to be careful and follow the rules - correct wire sizes, fuses, etc.
If the 6volt system is solid & trouble free I'd wait and rebuild everything when you have some time and all the stuff needed to do everything at the same time. Changing over to 12 volt is a good idea. Having 12 volts available lets you have other nice choices - power windows/locks, cruise control, driving lights, etc
Good luck with your new project
