My 1953 vintage wiring all worked, but the cotton insulation was falling off in places. Time for drastic measures. I cut it all out and re-made the wiring using the original 6V gauge specs from the manual in case I ever wanted to go back (heck its consservative...)
I didn't use Teflon (no cheap source) but good automotive quality vinyl wire.
