You got away very lucky. I did that once. It cost me $1500 to fix it. I did not start the truck or turn the key on as it would pump fuel I had it towed to the dealer where they drained the tank and flushed it, replaced all filters and the fuel pump. DEF had gotten into the fuel pump and first filter. So they replaced the pump and filters. They said that if it had gotten into the engine it would have been a total rebuild. Apparently, the stuff is really corrosive and screws things up really bad. The bummer of it was I had just filled the tank so there went $100+ of fuel plus they charged $7 a gallon to dispose of the contaminated fuel which was their actual cost.

Talking to the service tech at the dealer, they said they have had to do several total rebuilds or replacements after people drove them. However, they said many were covered by the people’s insurance as it was a human screw up and not a mechanical failure. I guess they considered it a comprehensive type claim. Ie the vehicle was damaged by a non accident screw up.
