I've read about, and talked to, several people who cruise for hours at 3000 - 3200 rpm, and they occasionally take it up to 3600 or beyond for brief periods, but I'm a little leery of doing that. I think cruising at 3000 rpm probably wouldn't be an issue, but I wouldn't push it much past that. Brief periods at more than 3200 may also be ok, but I personally plan to avoid doing that.
