If I read this right the engine is out and all wires disconnected from it and only the wiring left in the truck is causing it? If you had a short it would burn up the wire fast or at least smoke at the point of the short. Not sure how big of a spark your getting? If you leave it hooked up does it get hot like the wire is stuck on the frame dead short or a spark like a small load is on the wiring. If changed over to 12 volts there may be a Voltage Dropping Device under the dash to look for that is defective and causing and load. Electric fuel pump on the frame, tail lights, brake lights, shorted fuel gauge ect.
