340 is a car engine A little more horse bigger valves although some years were externally balanced like the 360 is.They do make a balencer to add if you go that rout. A 318 LA is a good engine easy to find and will fit right in also better on fuel with good power. The things to watch is correct truck oil pan and the crank is drilled for a manual transmission
