It is warmer in a snow drift than out, When I winter camped on top of Mt.St. Regis I never carried a tent like the others, I dug 2+ feet in a drift, put a fly under the sleeping bag to keep dry, and avowed wind to fill the trench.
I would stand on top my bag to dress and cool off, others in tents were cold changing their cold tents
I only used my 50's erra once since I just got the truck and didn't test the antifreeze, on a 20's night.
