If you did the conversion, have you checked the PIF to see if it's wired correctly at the regulator and are you using a ballast resister?
If it's a GM alternator and the regulator is not converted correctly, or if you're not using a ballast resister it will produce too many volts to the ignition system causing the points to burn.
