Fuel Pump Differences

I always wrongly assumed that the pumps with the up-turned rocker arms were for short blocks and the pumps with the straight arms were for long blocks. I have recently removed several pumps with the up-turned arm from long blocks and I have seen them advertised on eBay as fitting both a 230 (short block) and a 237 (long block).

So I guess my question is, what are the differences? Is it early vs. late and the straight arm only works on later long blocks? Thanks for any insights.
