Yes, this is common. What bidding goes to at auction is the public’s valuation of a vehicle & usually high at that, but of course a seller can ask whatever they want.
My experience is that no matter the mileage, a nice condition firetruck max value is $10k.
This is why they are converted back. The little mo is cool in firetruck world however it would be a nightmare to convert it back & so since the firetruck crowd value firetrucks very low, & the conversion back on a truck like that very high...I suspect the seller will own it for a long while.
