Slight Whirring Noise When Clutch is Released?

Last evening I noticed a slight whirring noise when I release the clutch when it is in neutral. The noise is extremely faint, but I just just hear it. My first thought was a throw-out bearing, but I thought that only made noise when the clutch was engaged. Thoughts?
