My 6x6 has a VE pumped 6BT, Getrag five speed, and 4.89 gears with 38 inch tires. Runs down the highway fine at 70 or better after some mild pump work, injectors, and a turbo swap. Keep in mind that with anything over about a 38 inch tire you will start having clearance issues between the tandem rear axles. With my 38 inch Pit Bulls there is JUST enough room to slip my hand between the tires. It's a reliable, nice driving combination that pulls like a freight train. That being said, I doubt there would be any drawbacks to running the 4.30 gears if it's going to see mostly road use and you're not towing really heavy.
