I have a way that’s bulletproof on painted wood. I may try something I think would work the same sometime when I have time. So on painted wood, I use 2 part urethane mixed 50/50 & then I dilute it with Xylene until it’s like water. Brush on a heavy coat. Next day I brush another coat diluted 15%. 3rd day I roll a coat on straight. It’s as hard as rock & I've never had it peal or fade. So...what if you mixed an aniline dye and stained the wood whatever shade you wanted, then do the exact same procedure I use only with satin or gloss clear...depending on what you’re trying to do?
It doesn’t ever age on anything I’ve put it on...clear is the same stuff?
Just a thought & it’s cheap. Like a quart is like $30.
