All the wires to the regulator do is switch the field to ground. If you go with the single wire, just disconnect them. The BAT/+ side of the regulator, comes off your firewall connector as a tap from the ignition switch, which can either be removed or just capped off(only live or powered when the ignition is on) The BAT/+ side of the alternator goes to your headlight switch, So you can just connect it the same way and it will work fine.
