wc transfer lever rod WC 56

The transfer case lever and rod was in a box when I got this wc 56 and when I went to put them on I found that the rod is way to long..Any idea how long the rod is supposed to be ? I can eyeball it and cut it down but I thought Id ask first..also my plate for the transfer lever is square with 3 holes and in pictures it shows a triangle one..Ive got myself a project with a bunch of mismatched parts..lol...thanks
