I think we're talking about the same thing. The pinion bearings in my 6x6 were still in very good condition, so I used this process to get them back into spec. I had to surface grind the backs of the cones to get them right, as well as hand lap the center shim, but it turned out perfect. The process is described in TM9-8031-2, May 1952, pages 120 to 123
