Got off to an early start from North Platte Nebraska and put the hammer down knowing it was going to be a long day driving .Found a couple of local live stock haulers and shadowed them from about a mile back, they never left the fast lane for over a hundred miles and we made great progress driving towards Iowa.
There is a tremendous amount of damage from the flooding a few weeks back with Interstate and bridge closures and detours so it slowed us down some what.
A lot of the fields in Nebraska and Iowa are still too wet for the farmers to get into to disc and plant with standing
water in the low spots.
Thanks to my friend Jerry I gathered my fuel receipts for the trip and the average on the low side was 13 and the high side was 22 going downhill from 10000 feet past Denver on to the plains, and today we average 16 mpg getting to Fairfield.
Thanks to everyone for your comments, this has been truly a lifetime dream for me, from being in high school and buying my first Carryall in 1969, raising a family put Power Wagons on the back burner, taking a slight detour with my Willy pu and station wagon, then into woodies , then finally retiring last year and coming full circle with my present Mininger built Carryall which allows this worn out old body a degree of comfort where I can still get behind the wheel and smile for 10 to 12 hours of driving and still feel like a kid again as long as I don’t look in the mirror.
Thanks to Joe for making this possible and all the other Dodgers who get it
