Manny.

If your running 4.89s with Michelin 9.00 x 16s with a V8 you really don’t need an overdrive. I have been running for years with a 4 speed with those tires and gears. I run 3,000 RPM at 60 MPH. I can do that all day. At 70MPH I am turning 3,500 RPM. I have no problem doing that all day. Gas mileage might not be the best but it never will be with a PW. If you your were going a diesel an overdrive would be mandatory.

Specifically, I have a Chevy 327, with a Chevy 420 truck trans which is mated to a NP200 transfer case with a short jack shaft. Everything is stock from there back with centered axle and Helitool disks up front and a hydro boost setup. You can directly mate the Chevy trans output to the Dodge transfer as there are slip joints that mate perfectly for the jack shaft.

I can’t help you with an automatic transmission I have know knowledge or expertise. Personally, I would never put one into any of my trucks. I wish I could get manual transmissions in my daily drivers. I just don’t care at all for automatics period.
