I just looked at the winches on my trucks. My ffPW has a 1948 winch that I got off a PW in a junk yard. It has the flat sided drum and the passenger side flange is quite thick. I believe that this winch is a complete original unit.

The winch that I put on my Carryall is dated 1949 but I know that it was pieced together from more than one winch. It has the the early drum with the thinner and ribbed passenger side flange.

Both have replacement handles. The ffPW has a replacement passenger side support and new gears and bearings. The one on my Carryall has original gears but new bearings and front support.

The ffPW winch was badly bent up when I got it and had been well used and abused. The front support looks like a saw tooth where the cable ran against it when they used the A frame. I left the A frame in the junkyard.
