Back in the early 90s, I took apart the vacuum wipers in my '49 Power Wagon. I don't recall now if I replaced any of the parts with new ones or just reused the existing ones, but I do recall using engine oil in both wipers, and finding that they worked great after that (they didn't work well at all before that). I never touched them again, and they continued working fine for a dozen or more years after that.
