Depends on the truck. It it is really clean and complete keep it original as possible. If it is really trashed and needs lots of work consider modernization.
You would be surprised how well these trucks will do with an engine swap, disk brakes, Michelin 9.00 X 16s, and 4.89 gears. A V8 conversation is most straight forward and no overdrive is need as is with a diesel swap. I have a Carryall WC53 with basically the same conversion. It will do 70+ all day long and runs true and straight. You will need to go through the steering system and suspension to get rid of any worn parts.
