"Truck guys". Now we may be finally nailing down where the misconception originated. That is funny.

I wanted to source some of the special hex head conical mounting screws locally - the ones that mount and correctly align our PTO boxes to the Up-To-Type and After-Type transmissions. I went to Sadler Power Train, the largest and one of the most respected power train specialists in our area.

I told them I needed factory conical hex head cap screws to mount my PTO box. After answering the standard 20 questions that included: what is the make of the truck, what is the model, what year is it, V-8 or 6-cylinder, paint color, etc. They asked what model of transmission do you have and what PTO are you mounting to it? I replied that it was all original as delivered from the factory - early New Process Up-To-Type transmission (the non-numbered one) and the Detroit Harvester dual output PTO. They replied that because it was a Dodge it had to have the NP420 transmission and that they had never heard of Detroit Harvester.

I had to give them the cliff note education on Power-Wagons. That, Dodge used two four-speed New Process transmissions before they started assigning them a model number and that Detroit Harvester produced many farm implements including complete sickle bar mowers for Ford tractors - and - PTOs for Power-Wagons.

They looked at me like I was on meth or something. And these guys were all older than me and certainly old enough, and one would think experienced enough, to know better.

That was when I quickly learned that "truck guys" does not equate to Dodge Guys. The oldest an most experienced guy in their division had probably never even seen a Power-Wagon part, much less a complete Power-Wagon on their shop floor because Power-Wagons were typically apparently never taken to those kinds of establishments for service.
