The 8 3/4 differential, in my mind, is a little weak for that large of a tire. I am not sure if you have a 1/2 to axle or an early 3/4 ton axle. The 8 3/4 differential went though a couple of improvements but was replaced by the 9 5/8 differential as it would not hold up. The 1/2 ton had the weakest differential with two pinion. The early 3/4 ton had a 4 pinion differential which was stronger. The 9 5/8 differential is the strongest without question. You can put a 9 5/8 differential in an early 3/4 ton axles with some minor modifications.

My 3/4 ton Carryall has an 8 3/4 front axle and a 9 5/8 rear axle. They have 4.88 gears which I installed. I suspect that both were 8 3/4 originally but the rear was swapped out for a late 9 5/8 axle with the welded on cover. I also have an early 3/4 axle housing with a bolt on cover that I planning on converting to 9 5/8 differential and install in my PW.
