Did you pull the engine apart before installing it? I've read dozens of complaints on other mopar web boards about the quality of the crates. They are good engines, but are sloppily put together.
One guy had one in his 77 van, was running to the Nats, and it threw a rod. 300 miles on it! No warranty!
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the crate engine program, but when I get mine, it's coming apart first to make sure it's right.
