Dodge has had problems with this. They were going to use the Allison in the new HD Rams, but apparently they now have built a new corporate trans to handle the new High Output Cummins, which has around 350 HP. There is also talk of using a Mercedes trans from the HD Mercedes truck line. The Cummins has been de-tuned in the past to keep trans/transfer case/ axles under the truck.
Apparently Dodge feels comfortable enough with the new combo to up the engine performance.
