I (my wife ;-) has a v-10 in a 2wd 2500 quad. It got 13 mpg carrying a big pontoon boat across Missouri and Kansas last summer w/ the AC on. It sure does like mid grade gas - 89 octane better, as you I got get better gas mileage out of it. No better on premium. Why? I could not tell you. I had no problem carying around a couple of friends 24 - 26' lake cruisers to winter storage. Been on many long trips and never a problem driving through Colorado mountains or out to Mount Rushmore. It was kinda nice to have some power after driving a 4 or 6 cyl for 8 years. Very popular with friends needing thing moved (see boats above)!
BUT... It has had to have the transmission replaced... under warranty. It started shifting wierd, thought it was just the wife, but it started doing it when I drove it too. Took it in and they didn't bat an eyelash to order me a new one to be put in, not just fix it. Sounds like that might be a problem with 'em.
