I only engage the hubs when I need 4 wheel drive. With the hubs engaged a whole bunch of stuff is moving including the front drive shaft and the truck handles a bit differently even though the transfer case is in 2wheel drive.
Auto hubs - after having one engage while driving down a highway i ripped them out the next day. Pretty much tossed the truck into the next lane.
