Yeah, I read back through the W Service book and the first procedure doesn't apply although the manual states it does, the PW doesn't have that adjustment only the adjustment for shifts in the cab. If gap is fairly significant you may be a tooth off on the sector shaft. Tightening the play in the sector/worm will not have an effect on eliminating the shaking. The rims and tires you got didn't help?
