Its often a power trip for the inspectors. However, there are good inspectors out there.

The inspectors who inspected my house did not do their job at all. I found out when we had to open up some sheet rock after it got wet after a water leak. There were many floor joists in hangers that were not nailed in at all. Yes the hangers were nailed to the beam however the joists were just floating in the hangers. The decks were not attached to the house correctly or even close to code.

I actually talked to the builder who built my house about 15 years after the house was built. He said they basically did what ever they wanted as the inspectors rarely showed up and would sign off without looking at things and would sign off on multiple inspections at one time. He said it was too far from Seattle for the inspectors to come out as requested. I actually am surprised how well built my house is. The structure is actually quite good except for the hangers and decks. The framing crew was a good one. The builder built the decks.
