The county I live in requires a "building location permit". This amounts to an inspector coming to your property to make sure you are not too close to a property line, stream, lake, septic system, etc. They do not inspect the work that is being done for quality, safety or even for meeting code. Of course, the appraiser is right on the heels of that guy.
