I always appreciate stories like that, but they also hold a certain bittersweet quality.
As we grow older, our strength, our endurance, our eyes, our ears, and other abilities slow down or even stop working. I can just imagine the way that gentleman must feel. The sense of accomplishment in having done this job for 70 years, coupled with the reality that he will no longer do it. I am going to be 77 in a few months. I'm pleased to still be here after some very serious health issues 5 1/2 years ago, but I also see myself slowing down. It's proof to me that we were not designed and created for our lives to be so short.
Hmmmmm. I hope I didn't depress everyone. :)
