Yes and no. There are bearing spacer inside to adjust the bearings and you can't properly do it without removing the retainer assembly. Bearings have to be free of oil and dry to properly adjust the bearings in the retainer. You can pull the retainer off to do this, however there are 15 loose roller bearings in the driven gear that may or may not come out with the gear, so there is a possibility that you'll have to fish for them if they do.
