I don't think that's true. Motivation has always been key, problem is what motivates you isn't the same as what motivates the younger generations.
Some of it is cultural, they grew up in a world where everything is expendable, including employees, and both information and rewards are almost instant.
Some of it is just because they're young, most of us did not much like school or work when we were young, we wanted to play, hang out with friends, and party. Doesn't help that thanks to smartphones those things are always in their pocket to tempt them.
There are bad workers in all generations, but younger generations aren't worse in general, they just have different motivations, and most of that is because of the world us older generations have built taught them to be that way.
