Here's a picture of my bed framework during fabrication. I had the side rails formed by a welding shop with a big press. They are formed into an "L", 4" vertical and 2" horizontal. The cross channels are 3". I added the crane after the bed was finished. I added reinforcing channels alongside the two in the rear, then welded the 3/8" plate to the channels. As I mentioned in the other post, I lifted a rock that bent the base of the crane, and cracked the steel, but the bed held together.
