The steering column slides off the shaft after you loosen the clamp at the box and remove the bearing under the wheel.
However the shaft is part of the worm gear (one piece).
You lift the cab high and out over the column or drop the box out from underneath with the chassis raised high.
Don't cut the shaft even if you don't want the box, someone else may be looking for one.
