Let me add a little more to this discussion. Basically, find out what the problem is first. Throwing an electric fuel pump on to solve an unknown issue does not make sense. You could still have an issue even after you install the electric pump.

What have you done to diagnose the problem. What is your fuel pressure at the carb? Can you say that your pickup in the tank is good? Is it plugged or has it rusted off and fallen to the bottom of the tank? Are you sure that your fuel line from the tank to the pump is not partially plugged and is leak free and will hold pressure? Is your fuel pump any good? Has the ethanol eaten the diaphragm. Is there gas in your oil (which means a bad diaphragm)? Is it the correct fuel pump and is it’s lever riding correctly on the lobe? Has the lever broken off or is it’s pivot broken. Have you checked and replaced any rubber hoses in the fuel line (they will close off with age)? Have your replaced your fuel filters? If water in the fuel has hit the filter they can be “plugged” and not let fuel through. Is you needle valve in the carb working? Is it opening up to let fuel into the bowl?

Are you going to leave the manual pump in if you install an electric pump? If so, any of the above problems will still be there.

Does your current pump have a priming lever on it if so can you get fuel into the pump bowl with it?

There are many potential issues, so before throwing money at it, figure out wat the problem is first.
