Why wouldn't you put the assembly in the third slot using the cast iron ring in the lower slot to remove the bulk of the oil and finish it with the better ring? Versus removing oil with the better ring fowled with one that doesn't work as well?
Like washing your truck after driving down a dusty road, you remove the bulk dirt with water, then come back with water and soap to get the remaining. Versus removing the bulk with the soapy water and scratch the paint in the process.
Just thinking.
