That's 11" not 5" like it would be after the wheel base increases when the bed changes in 1965 1/2.

Remember, the LWB 100 and 200 used a 7 1/2 foot utiline bed in 1961-1965 1/2 so the wheel well of the 8' sweptline bed was off center to accommodate a WB designed for a 7 1/2 foot bed. Starting in 1965 1/2 the utiline bed went to 8' in the LWB 100 and 200 so the WB was lengthened to 128" and the new sweptline bed had the wheel well more centered.

I don't see how the axle could be that close to the wheel well with an 11" difference, but only checking the wheel base of the truck would answer this question.
