The engine is 420cc, supposedly 13hp. The big advantage for me with this engine is the electric start. My 76 year old shoulders are both shot and the engine that came on the splitter refused to start in cold weather unless I kept it in the garage when I wasn't using it.
You are right about the western trees. We might have more trees of a bigger diameter, 30 to 40 inches. And the Doug Fir sometimes has a lot of branches close together. We have some maple, but pretty rare for firewood.
