I just cut the heads off some bolts and thread them in finger tight. usually they stick out about 1.25 and the last was on a chebby and the one before that a cummins no clue what length would work for you. On a real nasty one I have gone longer on two bolts - they almost act like an extra hand - 4 bolts is the most I use - I do not want to break or strip something so 4 bolts strike me as a way to spread out the load.
