The house we just bought had moisture issues, a dehumidifier was recommended as the solution because there wasn't enough flow to ventilate it and we live in a humid climate anyway. Part of the installation was sealing up all the existing crawl vents and making sure the vapor barrier was properly installed so we weren't trying to dehumidify the ground or the great outdoors.
We'll see how well its worked in a few weeks when I have to go under there to start fixing some of the duct and piping insulation and snake some network cables.
